Zazen Audio
Our Research
The research we conduct is based on sensory science, psychology and neuroscience.
At Zazen Audio, we focus on the intersection of game audio, spatial audio, perception, and psychology. We explore how these areas intertwine and how they can be used to create compelling, immersive audio experiences.
We use a range of cutting-edge tools and techniques to help understand what makes the best audio experience possible. Our network of researchers and engineers have a great understanding of the psychological effects of sound and how to use it to create a truly captivating experience.
The Team
Patrick Flanagan
Principal Investigator
As a Senior Perceptual Specialist at Loop Earplugs, I explore the interplay between sound and human experience, particularly in managing loud environments. As Chief Technology Officer at Moea Technologies, my role underscores my expertise in integrating audio, spatial processing, computer vision, and psychology to create cutting-edge sports-based simulations.

My ongoing PhD at Fielding Graduate University, focusing on sound perception's cognitive and emotional aspects, further solidifies my commitment to understanding and enhancing human interaction with audio environments. My passion for creating immersive audio experiences is evident across gaming, entertainment, and education. Through multiple published user research studies and collaborations with prestigious partners like NYU, THX, and Logitech, I am advancing the field of spatial audio processing and its applications in video games, linear media, and hearable devices that aim to enhance and allow people to live in a complex audio landscape.

My goal is to innovate and improve gaming audio experiences while leveraging psychoacoustics expertise across various fields. This approach highlights your dedication to enhancing user engagement and performance. This comprehensive approach drives forward the technology and enriches the understanding of how sound impacts our cognitive and emotional states.
